During my studies of Alzheimer’s disease and all of its complexities there were two products used in everyday life that can either cause or contribute to the disease and that most people would not necessarily associate with this frightening condition.

We will take a look at them one at a time and start with a product which is very familiar to all of us and that is Fluoride

Fluoride addition to public water supply

The optimum level of fluoride permitted to be added to the nation’s water supply was set in the 1940s at approx. 1 ppm based on the assumption that the total intake of fluoride would be no more than 1 mg /day. However, at the time fluoride was nowhere as widely used as it is today and now fluoride does not just occur in water. Nearly 71% of soft drinks each contain 0.60ppm, toothpaste, beverages, processed foods, fresh fruit and vegetables, vitamins and mineral supplements all contribute to the overall intake of fluoride. It is estimated that the total amount now ingested is about 8 mg/day, which is eight times the original estimated optimum level.

To compound the problem aluminium is often added as a clarifying agent to water. In itself the body does not readily adsorb aluminium but when fluoride is present it forms the compound aluminium-fluoride, which is easily adsorbed. This is known to cause severe kidney damage and lesions to the brain, similar to Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and may contribute to the start of full blown Alzheimer's.

Fluoride used in toothpaste

Fluoride is heavily used in toothpaste but can be avoided by reading the tube and buying the non fluoride version.

Dentists will sometimes offer to coat the teeth with fluoride to protect and harden them. This is a bad idea and should be refused.

Organophosphates used in food production

The other product is not so widely known, but which is used in huge quantities in foodstuff, or contact with food is an insecticide group Organophosphates.

Some years ago I wrote a detailed piece of research concerning the relationship between Organophosphates (OP) and BSE/NvCJD which is a prion protein disease the same as Alzheimer’s. The subject and implications are long and involved and I therefore won’t try to give a précised version, except to say that foods treated with OP should be avoided at all costs. You may wish to read it and therefore click on the link below which will explain the relationship in detail. It is quite apparent that organophosphates and Alzheimer's are connected and that OPs are contributory if not a primary cause of dementia. Suffice to say that the scandal of the British farmers being forced, by law, to treat their cattle with Phosmet (an organophosphate formulated by the Nazis as a weapon) to treat warble fly, continues to be denied by HMG. It is interesting to note that Britain (the only country to enforce the use of Phosmet) has the highest incidence of BSE/NvCJD.

Superb work continues to be carried out by Mark Purdey (Somerset farmers and biochemists) into Organophosphates and manganese compounds and I would recommend their web site for some rather thought provoking reading.

Having been acquainted with the facts you may well ask “how can I protest to the water authority” and “how can I tell if my meat, fruit, grain etc. has been treated with Organophosphates “.

The water authority is easy, just write to their head office pointing out the facts and as usual they will just ignore you, or send a computerised letter with various platitudes which will amount to the same thing. What you can do is to take practical steps by drinking only bottled spring water (and your pets) or by using a jug or purifier that will remove pesticides, heavy metals etc. from your tap water. Do not ingest any untreated tap water and that includes cooking, cleaning your teeth or even washing. Do not use untreated tap water for watering vegetables or filling children’s paddling pools.

Foodstuff is more difficult, even impossible to do as the use of OP is so widespread. Where possible you should try to source products that are organically grown or grow your own.

Read the pack and buy only those foods that carry the organic foods mark.

As more evidence comes to light a greater number of uses for Ops are banned but there are still enough to cause concern.

Does Alzheimer's or dementia affect you or your family ?

Have you or any members of your family been affected by dementia ?
