Rejuvenation – now that seems a very fanciful concept at first glance but the human body is going through a process of constant rejuvenation as new cells replace old and the brain continues to grow in ability. It is only when disease strikes and the cell renewal process is disrupted or old age creates wear in joints or we disrespect our organs through drugs, tobacco or alcohol, that the system starts to break down.

Through diet and gentle exercise we can feed our body with what it needs to ensure correct cell renewal and muscle and nerve function.

Since the beginning of time humans have tried to find ways to live forever or recapture lost youth and vitality.

Essential oils cannot prolong the expectation of life but it can help maintain health, activity and appearance both physically or mentally to beyond the point you would normally expect it to decline.

The best time to delay aging is when you are young and vigorous but the question does not normally arise in youth. There are many case histories reported by Dr Jean Valnet and Marguerite Maury where senility both mental and physical has been reversed well into an advanced age by the use of essential oils.

Essential oils are by their very nature cytophylatic (they promote healthy new cell growth). It is the lack of new cells that cause the problems we associate with aging. The life of a cell varies from days to months and our health and vitality depends on this renewal process. Poor diet, infection and adverse environment (as well as age) can affect the reproduction of cells. More importantly cells may reproduce in damaged or corrupted form and this causes the body to malfunction – this we tend to blame on old age. This process is not unavoidable and essential oils can do much to prevent it.

The most powerful of the cytophylatic essential oils are Neroli and Lavender and their use in massage and baths can return the body’s cell reproduction back to the levels of our youth and with consequent improvement in healthy functions and vigour.

The daily use of essential oils in burners, fans and diffusers will help to keep away infections and retain a youthful body.

Other degenerative diseases associated with age can be kept at bay and you can refer to my other hubs relating to Sciatica, Arthritis, Chronic Bronchitis etc.

The menopause hormone levels can be balanced by other oils such as Geranium and Rose and others can stimulate or calm the central nervous system.

The skin and in particular wrinkles or loss of elasticity can be reduced or even reversed by the use of Frankincense, Sandalwood, Jasmine and Rose.

The carrier oils you use are just as important as the essential oils themselves and the very best are Argan oil from Morocco and Rose Hip oil, both of which will significantly improve your skin.

Really good nutrition is vitally important as the cells cannot function correctly without a wide range of nutrients and the amino acids and proteins found therein together with vitamins, minerals and other elements. We must try to ensure our food is as natural as possible and without chemical additives, pollutants or GM modification. These all contribute to premature aging and we should avoid them where possible. Take care with meat and fish as many are routinely fed on chemically treated feedstuff, have antibiotics added and also growth and sex hormones added. Try to eat organically reared meat or non-farmed game.

We need to ensure adequate exercise and rest and reduce stress and tension. Essential oils allow us to obtain the best results from this.

Rosa Mosqueta is made from the seeds of a wild rose (Rosa affinis Rubiginosa) grown in the Chilean Andes. It has been found to have incredible properties in skin regeneration. It was originally investigated to reduce scarring after accidents and operations, but was found to fade and soften wrinkles, and help to keep the skin hydrated & soft. The oil is naturally rich in vitamins A, C & E, and essential fatty acids (EFAs) which play an important role in skin regeneration. Two year clinical trials were carried out at the University of Concepción, Chile in 1983 which confirmed its claims including those of enhancing skin tone, lightening uneven pigmentation, and repairing sun damage. It is expensive but use sparingly, just apply 1 or 2 drops of the oil to the affected area and massage into skin with the fingertips. Repeat 2-3 times per day

Sodium Bentonite Clay is a fine clay powder which can be mixed into a gel with a little water and applied to the face as a “mud pack”. Although it is safe to eat wear a dust mask while mixing as it can irritate the lungs. Keep out of eyes and leave on the face for around 20 minutes then wash off with warm water, again avoiding the eyes.

Sodium Bentonite also works extremely well for flaking scalp and other scalp conditions. The clay removes and deals with parasites, infections and product build up while pulling toxins and impurities from below the skin’s surface. To prepare the gel, mix 50:50 with water using a plastic or wooden spoon as metal utensils will take the properties of the clay away. Massage the clay onto your scalp and leave for approximately 20 minutes rinsing well with warm water and a little baby shampoo.
